Using the blog has escaped me as of late. I have progressed since last posting in December of 2010. Had a couple more MMA fights (June 2011 and Sept 2011) both finishing as disappointing split decision losses (more on that later). Had another kickboxing fight (January 2012) which saw me win and take home my first piece of hardware, the promotion's 170 pound belt. I have been delving into the business side of MMA taking on the task of Marketing Director of Fusion MMA while also trying to nail down some sponsors for the gym and for the fighters (myself included). Have some great sponsors in Dirty Dying Breed, Five Stones Apparel, and Outburst Energy.
Revising this page is, for no other reason, because of the "I Am Bruce Lee" movie that was release earlier this year. I am different than other "typical" martial artists. I have NOT followed the arts for my entire life. I only found the UFC a few years before I started training in August 2010. I never wrestled nor competed in Tae Kwon Do tournaments when I was a child. I did not have the exposure to amazing teachers who had dedicated their lives to one discipline, master it, then teach the masses. Most importantly, I did not have the knowledge of masters such as Bruce Lee, Gene Lebell, Yip Man, Muhammad Ali and others prior to taking up the combat arts. As such, the documentary hit especially for me in that I was seeing most of these ideals and practices for the first time. I saw how the things I was being taught in training were derived from years of refinement and criticism.
I am not scared to fail, for in failure we sometimes learn the most about ourselves. I love learning new things, turning around then teaching them to others. I have somewhat thrown myself into learning about MMA and all it offers. I know there is more out there, I just need to find it! I will never know everything but the journey is more than adequate for me. Epic stories are not epic because of the goal reached but more because of the journey taken.
The purpose of this blog is to catalog my progress while training for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Before August 2009 I had never been in a fight (still havnen't) and had never thrown a punch. One month of Kung-Fu training was all the experience I had. I was a blank slate. This is my Progression Thru Aggression.
